Remove fireworks stand after July 3 Updated to run Friday, JUNE 25 Announcements of church events are published each Friday and Sunday in The News Courier. Church briefs must be submitted in writing, either on a form available at The News Courier office at 410 W. Green St., Athens, or sending e-mail to kelly@athensnews-courier.com or a fax to 256-233-7753.

• Fireworks stand. First Church Athens will run a fireworks stand to raise funds today through July 5. The stand will be west of Interstate 65 on Alabama 20. Proceeds go to the church building fund. The stand has a “no duds” guarantee. Call 256-232-7710.

• Revival. Majestic Chapel at 21315 Hays Mill Road off Alabama 127 in Elkmont will hold a revival at 7 p.m. nightly June 25-26 featuring evangelist James Oliver, pastor of Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. Singers are: Friday, Reflection; Saturday, Walking Miracles. Call 256-431-8038.

• Fish fry. The Pentecostals of Ardmore, 28685 Airport Lane, are having a fish-fry fundraiser June 26. Price is $6.50 a plate for adults and $3.50 a plate for children.

• Bible school. Boyd’s Chapel United Methodist Church will hold vacation Bible school Saturday, June 26, with registration at 9 a.m. Family and friends are invited back at 1 p.m. for food and fun. Water slide available. Pre-register with Cheryl Blankenship at cherylumc@aol.com.

• Woman's Day. James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at 814 Lucas St., Athens, will hold its Woman's Day Program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27, featuring The Woodruff Family, One Accord and Diarita Baker. For information, call Charlet Jones at 256-206-9435.

• Family and Friends Day. Frazier Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will host Family and Friends Day at 2:30 p.m. June 27 at 1108 S. Hine St. Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church family and Pastor Damon T. Betts will lead worship. Lunch served at 1:30 p.m. Call 256-656-3878 or 256-233-1104.

• Men’s Day. Village View United Methodist Men will hold its annual Men’s Day celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at South Hine and Plato Jones streets. Guest speaker is John Irving, pastor of Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church of Athens. The male chorus of Little Ezekiel Missionary Baptist Church of Tanner will provide music. Call 256-232-1201.

• Men’s Day. The Brotherhood Ministry at Poplar Creek Missionary Baptist Church will hold its Men’s Day celebration at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27. The Rev. Gregory Scott and Oak Grove Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will be guests for the service. Call Johnny Harris at 256-729-8852.

• Homecoming. The annual homecoming service of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church at 803 Westmoreland Avenue in Athens will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 27. Evangelist Reginald Turner of Birmingham will be guest speaker, and Edna Turner and the Sweet Home Male Chorus will provide the song service. Call 256-233-3940.

• Anniversary. Peace Missionary Baptist Church at 1214 Plainview Court will have its Pastor’s Anniversary services at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Pastor O.C. Neloms and First Baptist of Courtland will be in charge of the 2:30 worship services. Call Mike Bailey at 256-874-0565.

• Vacation Bible school. Tanner United Methodist Church will hold Bible school from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, June 28 for children ages 4 years to fifth grade. For information, call 256-232-9734.

• Dinner theater. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” will be presented in the Fellowship Hall of Asbury United Methodist Church on July 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on July 11 and 17. Performances the first weekend are a dinner theatre show. Tickets for the dinner theatre are $25. Included in the price is a $10 donation to Royal Family Kid’s Camp, a camp for foster children. Tickets for shows on July 16 and 17 are $16 for adults and $13 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available through the music ministry office at 256-837-9696, ext. 288. • Vacation Bible school. New Oakland Independent Baptist Church at 20959 Old Elkmont Road, Athens, will hold Vacation Bible School from 6-8:45 p.m. nightly July 19-23 with the theme Hero’s Headquarters. Classes for all ages.
