Spaghetti dinner fundraiser
Vietnam Veterans of America, chapter 511, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the VVA building, 17915 W. Elm St. The $7 meal includes spaghetti, fresh salad, bread, dessert and drink. Take out or eat in. Proceeds benefit the VVA scholarship fund.
The American Legion Post 49 monthly chicken stew is 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at 124 Cloverleaf Drive. Cost is $5 with one dessert to eat in or for per quart carryouts or delivery. “Holding the Fort” author Charlotte Fulton will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church Rodgers Center fellowship hall, 112 S. Jefferson St. The book traces the history of Trinity School on Brownsferry Street, which was founded in 1865 for the education of freedmen. Refreshments at 6:30. The public is invited. Limestone County Historical Society is hosting the free event as part of their quarterly meeting.
Center for the Arts open house
Open house at the Alabama Center for the Arts is 5-9 p.m. Friday at Second Avenue in Decatur. The public can tour the facility, which operates in conjunction with Athens State University, Calhoun Community College and the city of Decatur. Pop Goes the Artist highlights 14 student/alumni artists who will sell T-shirts and give tours.
Singing on Square
Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association will present a free Singing on The Square Concert at 6 p.m. Friday on the Marion Street side of the courthouse. Catherine DeHart will entertain with selections ranging from Loretta Lynn to Taylor Swift. More information: 256-232-5411.
AMVETS ladies breakfast
American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary breakfast is 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the AMVETS Post, 22769 Black Road. Cost is $5 per plate.
