FRIDAY

VVA music night

Vietnam Veterans of America Gary Elmore chapter 511 will have music from the past from 7  to 10 tonight. No cover charge, but donations are welcome. More information: 256-206-5399.

July 4 fireworks

The Athens-Limestone County Fireworks Show  will begin between 8:30 and 9 tonight (weather permitting) over  Athens Stadium on U.S. 31 North. Chairs, blankets welcome. Stadium seating is not available. Parking allowed at the Athens Recreation Center, Central Church of Christ, Athens High School parking lot and Kmart. Fireworks expected to last about 20 minutes.

VFW celebration

Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a Fourth of July celebration and cookout at 6 tonight at the Post on North Jefferson Street that will include food plates for $5 and karaoke. Proceeds go to assist veterans. The public is welcome.

SATURDAY

Saturday Market

A star spangled day is schedule for Athens Saturday Market sponsored by Alabama Farm Credit from 8 a.m. to noon. Coolbone Brass Band will perform from 9 a.m. to noon. Activities for children, fresh produce, baked goods and more.

Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the library, 405 E. South Street. More information: 256-232-1233.

Cruise-In

The monthly Cruise-In on The Square is 3-6 p.m. The Coolbone Brass Band, sponsored by Athens Rotary, will then parade around The Square at 6.

VVA country band

Vietnam Veterans Chapter 511 will host a country band from 6 to 11 p.m. Door charge is $5. Proceeds benefit veterans. More information: 256-541-2853.

Turkey & ham shoot canceled

The VVA turkey and ham shoot scheduled for July 5 has been canceled and will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 2.

Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. Saturday at 100 W. Pryor St. Dan Williams is the sponsor. More information: 256-771-7578.

Elk River Boat Party

The eighth annual Elk River Boat Party featuring Kozmic Mama is 3 p.m. Saturday on Anderson Creek. Access is by boat only. Launch can be made at Lee Hi Bridge boat launch on U.S. 72.
