Creation vs. evolution debate

New Life Assembly of God will be live streaming a creation vs. evolution debate with Bill Nye and Ken Ham at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 16768 U.S. 72 in Athens. Free event. Everyone welcome. More information: 256-232-6119.

Boys & Girls Club fundraiser

Tickets at $20 each are available at the Boys & Girls Club, 1017 W. Washington St., for its annual banquet and fundraiser to be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Beasley Center. More information: Pete Miller 256-232-4298.

Ham radio classes

Anyone interested in free classes on becoming an amateur ham radio operator can attend an organizational meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Limestone County Emergency Management, 1101 W. Market St. Hosted by Limestone A.R.E.S.

SATURDAY

Reading program

The Limestone County NAACP free motivational reading program for children ages 3-13 will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Round Island Creek Mission Center, 13829 Lucas Ferry Road. Lunch and transportation provided. Registration information: 256-216-5668.

Jessica Elkins Pageant

The Jessica Elkins Memorial Pageant will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Athens Middle School Auditorium. Registration is 6-8 p.m. Friday and 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday. Fee is $50 per entry. Additional fee for photogenic category. There is also an Ugly Walk.  Proceeds go to the Jessica Elkins Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jessica died Dec. 26, 2007, of bacterial meningitis.

Alabama tax forms

Alabama income tax forms are available at Houston Memorial Library at 101 N. Houston St. Hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Income tax preparation

Athens-Limestone County RSVP is providing free income tax preparation and electronic filing for taxpayers unable to pay to file their taxes. The service will be offered at Athens First Baptist Church Youth Activity Center from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Feb. 3 through April 14 on Mondays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Feb. 4-25 on Tuesdays. Bring last year’s tax returns, W-2 forms, Social Security numbers for each person claimed and 1099 forms. No appointment necessary. More information: RSVP office 256-232-7207.

IDs for age 55 and older

Anyone age 55 and older in need of a photo ID to cast your ballot in upcoming elections can call Emily Sandlin, 256-216-3906, at the Council on Aging before Jan. 30 to receive information on how to obtain one.
