Chili Challenge

The 26th annual Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge and Silent Auction will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Athens High School. Cost is $10 per person at the door to taste and vote on 32 chili recipes. Bid on sports items, artwork, gift certificates, lawn and garden supplies and more. Auction ends at 1:30. Proceeds benefit Hospice services such as Camp Home and respite workers.

Trinity celebration of history

Athens-Limestone Community Association will present a celebration of black history at 6 tonight at the Beasley Center of First United Methodist Church. Guest speaker is the Rev. Louis F. Malone, Trinity Class of 1968 and pastor of St. Luke M.B. Church in Rockford, Ill. Music by St. Mark P.B. Church Mass Choir. The public is invited. There is no charge for admission but donations toward the restoration of the Trinity School/Fort Henderson site will be accepted. VFW benefit

The VFW post is hosting a benefit at 2 p.m. Sunday for dialysis patient Marcus Johnson, 39, who is awaiting a new kidney. There will be a chicken stew, bake sale and auction. Stew at $5 per quart; $18 per gallon. Eat in or carry out; containers furnished.

MONDAY

Duct tape crafts for teens

The Athens-Limestone Public Library will host a free DIY Craft Day from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday. Teens can drop in anytime to create a duct tape wallet, bookmark, cellphone case, or something of their choice. All materials supplied, no registration required. For teens only. Used book sale

The Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

Blood drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held 12:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Athens Bible School gymnasium, 507 Hoffman St.
