Walk-a-thon/yard sale

The Limestone NAACP walk-a-thon is from 7-10 a.m. Saturday at the Athens High School track. See any member to make a pledge or donation. The yard sale is from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. at the corner of Hine Street and U.S. 72 West at T&T Groceries. Funds raised support scholarship program and branch operations. Contact: Greg Orr at 256-654-0486.

Food giveaway

Two pounds of pinto beans and 3 pounds of rice will be given away to anyone in need and until supplies last from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St. in Athens. No questions asked, no names taken.

4 Paws and a Book

A program dedicated to improving the reading skills of children ages 5 and older, called 4 Paws and a Book, will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children can bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier who will be present for the program. To schedule a time to read, call the library at 256-233-8770.

Author visit/football party

Athens-Limestone Public Library will host author Sherri Graves Smith from noon-2 p.m. Saturday. The free event includes a football party honoring Smith, complete with snacks, games, crafts and stories. Smith will read, sign autographs and have books for sale at $14.95 each plus tax. All ages welcome and encouraged to wear their team colors. For more information, call 256-232-1233.

Blankenship, Lee reunion

Used-book sale


Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used-book sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at the library at 405 E. South St. For more information, call 256-232-1233.
