Blood drive

The Haley Humphrey “Blood Stock” Scholarship blood drive will be held from 2-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the New Life Assembly of God Family Life Center at 16768 U.S. 72 West in Athens.

SATURDAY

AMVETS benefit yard sale

The AMVETS benefit yard sale will be held from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Vietnam Veterans building on West Elm Street in Athens. Tables are available  (inside for $15 and outside for $10). Contacts: Roxanne Haggermaker 256-206-6702 or Roger Keyes 256-374-2072.

Boating course

A boating course for anyone age 12 and older, with or without boat experience, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Hughes Road in Madison. There is a $30 fee to cover cost of materials. Contact: 256-679-4654.

4 Paws and a Book

A program dedicated to improving reading skills of children ages 5 and older, called 4 Paws and a Book will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children can bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier, who will be present for the program. To schedule a time to read, call the library at 256-233-8770.

Mitchell reunion

A reunion of descendants of John R. and Caroline Phillips Mitchell will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall, 6620 U.S. 72 in Center Star.

SUNDAY

Tyler Reunion

The Tyler family reunion will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Masonic Hall on Elm Street in Athens. Attendees are requested to bring a covered dish for a noon meal. Contact: Betty Dollar 256-729-6042.

McLemore/Blakely reunion

The McLemores and Blakelys family reunion is from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Owens Community Center. Attendees are requested to bring a covered dish. Everyone welcome. Contact: 256-232-3019.
