McCowan reunion

Descendants of James Wiley and Oleavy Yarbrough McCowan will meet for a reunion at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 4, at the Family Life Center of the Sardis Springs Baptist Church. Contact: Ruth Adams 256-232-4883 or 256-232-9059.

TUESDAY

Red Cross blood drive

The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Limestone Correctional Facility off Nick Davis Road.

Fairy tales, fables at library

The Athens-Limestone Public Library, in partnership with Girl Scouts, will host a series of free programs about fairy tales and fables from 2-3 p.m. on Aug. 6, 8, 13 and 15. Programs are geared toward girls ages 12 and under, but boys are welcome.

FRIDAY

Back-to-school jam

Believe to Achieve, a nonprofit community advocacy group, will host a back-to-school jam and school supply giveaway from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Jimmy Gill Park at 340 W. Sanderfer Road. The free event includes door prizes, food and entertainment . The public is invited. Contact: 256-874-7457.

SATURDAY

Blood drives

A Red Cross blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Mount Carmel Church of Christ fellowship building, 7805 U.S. 72 West. A blood drive will also be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday in honor of Jacob DuBois at Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall, 28430 Pinedale Road in Ardmore.

Reading program

The Limestone County NAACP invites children ages 3-13 to attend the free Steps Book Club/Reading Program session at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Round Island Creek Mission Center, 13829 Lucas Ferry Road. Learning, lunch and fun provided.  Registration and information: 256-216-5668.

NAACP membership rally

The Limestone NAACP will hold a membership rally from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at 17308 U.S. 72 West. Free hot dogs and soft drinks. Contact: Wilbert Woodruff 256-227-8489.

CEMETERY CLEANUPS

Myers Cemetery

Decoration day is from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Donations made out to Myers Cemetery can be sent to Lynn Nelson, 18347 Cross Key Road, Athens, AL 35614.
