Cosplay Party for Teens

Athens-Limestone Public Library will host a free cosplay party for teens from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Cosplay is short for “costume party.” Come dressed as book, movie or TV character. Food and games. No registration required. Teens only. More information: 256-232-1233.

Free Dump Day

Limestone residents may take a truck or trailer load of trash free of charge to the Transfer Station at 16100 BFI Lane, (just before 7-Mile Post Road), from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Sandlin Cemetery cleanup

Orchids in Spring

Heart of Dixie Orchid Society is hosting an annual show and sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Double Tree Suites, 6000 Memorial Parkway at Martin Road. There will be re-potting demos at noon and 2 p.m. both days. Event includes children’s activities. Free admission. Cameras welcome.

Horseshoe Bend trip

The Center for Lifelong Learning is organizing a trip to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Call 256-233-8260 by noon Friday to register.


Disaster kit items needed

RSVP/HandsOn Athens is preparing disaster kits for senior citizens and needs donated items to include: Small flashlights with extra batteries, whistles, manual can opener, first-aid kits, moist towelettes, hand sanitizers, garbage bags, zip lock plastic bags, playing cards, toilet tissue and pocket-size tissue. Deliver to RSVP, 409 W. Washington St. by March 31.

Rescue Squad drop-off

Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad is accepting donations for an upcoming garage sale at 1401 Freeman Avenue, Athens. Saleable items only.

Aluminum Can Bash

The Metal Exchange  at the Athens-Limestone Recycling Center on Lucas Ferry Road will offer 70 cents a pound for aluminum cans March 24-28. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed for lunch noon-12:30 p.m. More information: 256-585-0976.
