VFW benefit

The VFW post is hosting a benefit at 2 p.m. today for dialysis patient Marcus Johnson, 39, who is awaiting a new kidney. There will be a chicken stew, bake sale and auction. Stew at $5 per quart; $18 per gallon. Eat in or carry out; containers furnished.

MONDAY

Duct tape crafts for teens

The Athens-Limestone Public Library will host a free DIY Craft Day from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday. Teens can drop in anytime to create a duct tape wallet, bookmark, cellphone case, or something of their choice. All materials supplied, no registration required. For teens only. Used book sale

The Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

Blood drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held 12:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Athens Bible School gymnasium, 507 Hoffman St.

FRIDAY

Respite night

Caregivers Night Out will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, 1300 Lindsay Lane. Make reservations by noon Thursday, Feb. 27, at 256-232-7207.

SATURDAY

Pancake breakfast

West Limestone Band Boosters will hold a pancake breakfast 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Applebee’s on U.S. 72. Tickets are $5 and available from any West Limestone band member or booster. Proceeds benefit the band.

Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. Saturday, March 1,at 100 W. Pryor St. Athens Masonic Lodge No. 16 is the sponsor.

Home and Garden Show

The Limestone County Home and Garden Show is at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, at Limestone County Event Center. No admission fee. Demonstrations, kid activities, register for door prizes.

‘Hamlet’ tickets

Tickets to the Calhoun Community College production of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” are available for $10 for students and $12 for general admission. Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful seeks volunteers for a cleanup of the Elk River Canoe & Kayak Trail and surrounding land areas to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 8. Lunch and bottled water provided. March is National Women’s History Month, and this year the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives in Athens will present “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage & Commitment,” a celebration of women in the Vietnam War.
