Red Cross blood drive


The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday in the gymnasium of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church at the corner of Old Railroad Bed and Capshaw roads.

Free Meal

Emmanuel Church of God in Christ will offer a free meal starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at their location on 503 Hine Street. For more information, call Bill Downs at 256-431-1780.

TUESDAY

Jubilee Day


The Limestone County Chapter of the NAACP will host a Jubilee Day celebration at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church at 549 W. Elm St. in Athens. Minister Madison Brown of Decatur will speak. Theme is “Remembering the Past, Celebrating the Present, Moving to the Future.” Contact: Wilbert Woodruff at 256-227-8489.

Tickets for ‘Crowns’


The critically acclaimed gospel musical Crowns written by Regina Taylor and directed by Frank Travis will be presented Friday and Saturday, January 4 & 5 at 7 P.M. and Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 3 P.M. at the Council  on Aging 912 W. Pryor St., Athens. Tickets on sale at Pablo’s on Market at 256-216-8464, Raven’s Beauty Salon at 256-233-0202 and Kenny’s Kutz at 256-444-1682. • American Legion. American Legion Post 49 and Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the post home at 124 Cloverleaf Drive. Post dues increase for 2014 will be discussed and voted on. For more information, call Rod Huffman at 256-233-3023.

    Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association will present Singing on the Square Concert at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18th sponsored by Champion Chevrolet. Trippin' Dixie will take the stage first. The Dixie Bluegrass Boys will follow at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chair for a free concert.

    Spaghetti dinner fundraiser
    Vietnam Veterans of America, chapter 511, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday at the VVA building, 17915 W. Elm St. The $7 meal includes spaghetti, garlic toast, salad, dessert and drink. Take out or eat in. Proceeds benefit the VVA scholarship fund. More information: 256-206-5399.

    Free body fat analysis, blood sugar and cholesterol checks, bone density screenings and more will be available from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Athens-Limestone Hospital Health Fair at the Limestone County Courthouse Square. Numerous health care vendors will be on-site. Also, water and nonperishable food donations accepted for Limestone County Churches Involved.
