MONDAY

MLK ceremony

The Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee will host the 16th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Athens. Limestone County Circuit Judge James W. Woodroof Jr. will speak and the Round Island Creek male chorus will perform. Lunch served. No cost. Contact: Robbin Hines 256-874-0287.

Legislative open forum

The Limestone County legislative delegation will conduct an open forum at 6 p.m. Monday in the Sandridge Student Center ballroom at Athens State University. Ask questions and offer comments to Sen. Arthur Orr, Sen. Bill Holtzclaw, Rep. Mac McCutcheon, Rep. Micky Hammon and Rep. Dan Williams.

TUESDAY

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at 405 E. South St. Contact: 256-232-1233.

THURSDAY

Square dance sessions

Shirts & Skirts Dance Club of Athens is offering two free introductions to square dance sessions at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 24 and 31, at Athens Recreation Center. Contact: 256-232-5970.

FRIDAY

Respite Night

Caregiver’s Night Out will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, 1300 Lindsay Lane. Make reservations by noon Thursday, Jan. 24, at 256-232-7207.

SATURDAY

Pancake breakfast

The annual Athens Optimist Club Community Youth Benefit Pancake Breakfast will be held from 7-11 a.m. Saturday in the basement of First Christian Church at the corner of Market and Madison streets. All you can eat breakfast for $5 includes pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee. Takeouts available. Proceeds will fund Limestone County youth projects. Need volunteers

Volunteers are needed at all Limestone County senior centers to teach new classes in painting, drawing, crochet/knitting, needlepoint, ceramics and scrapbooking. Contact: Jennifer W. Reece 256-233-6412.

Tickets for the Feb. 1 Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation fundraiser staring Branson, Mo., headliners, The Bretts, are on sale now at First National Banks at Athens and Ardmore, by calling 256-233-9236, or visiting athenslimestonehospital.com. Pre-sold tickets for both the noon and 4 p.m. shows are $35 each; at the door, $45; 13 and under, $15; children under 2 admitted free.
