Chicken stew


The American Legion Post 49 monthly chicken stew will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Cost is $5 to eat in or for per quart carryouts. Containers provided. No sides with carryouts. Information: Rod Huffman 256-233-3023. Reserve carryouts: 256-230-6233.

Library community forum


The Athens-Limestone Public Library will host a community forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18, on the renovation of the future library building. Project Manager Kerrick Whisenant and Library Director Paula Laurita will speak and take questions from the floor.  Light refreshments provided. Barbecue chicken


The Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad barbecue chicken dinner with all the trimmings will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at 1401 Freeman Ave. $7 a plate. Takeouts or delivery. To place orders: 256-431-7734.

Respite Night

Caregiver’s Night Out will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Friendship United Methodist Church, 16479 Lucas Ferry Road. Make reservations by noon Thursday, April 18, at 256-232-7207.

SATURDAY

Plant sale


The Limestone County Master Gardeners plant sale will be from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at Farmers Market on Green Street.

Secure Your ID Day

Free on-site document shredding will be available from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in front of the Davidson Center Building and from 1-3 p.m. at Calhoun Community College on U.S. 31 in Decatur.  Participants can bring up to three boxes or bags of paper documents in a drive-thru arrangement.

4 Paws and a Book

A program to improve reading skills of children ages 5 and older, called 4 Paws and a Book will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children can bring their own book or read a favorite to Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier. To schedule a time to read, call the library at 256-233-8770.

    The 14th annual Miss/Master Crape Myrtle Festival Pageant is Saturday at the Ardmore, Tennessee Annex Building. Competition begins at 1 p.m. for girls, infant through age 19, and boys, infant through age 5. More information: 256-278-5524.

    The Athens Arts League Summer Art Stroll is 4-8 p.m. Friday on the downtown Limestone County Courthouse lawn. The free, family-friendly event will include music and 25 artists including painters, ceramicists, jewelry makers, mixed media and textile artists.
