Owens VFD Swamp John’s
Owens Volunteer Fire Department will have a Swamp John’s fundraiser beginning at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 12. Food will be served from 4-7 p.m.
Descendants of Philip Walter Ball and Addie Flanagan Ball are invited to a reunion and covered dish lunch at 11:30 a.m. today, Oct. 12, at Owens Senior Center.
Cowart Harvest Festival
The festival, from 4-7 p.m. today, Oct. 12, is a PTO fundraiser for Cowart Elementary School. It includes numerous carnival style games, bingo, silent auction, food and fun. Armbands for unlimited game play are $10. Tickets are 50 cents each, one ticket needed per game.

Book of Revelation study
Dr. Robbie White, director of Religious Studies at Athens State University, will host a study of the Book of Revelation at the Center for Lifelong Learning from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. The event is free to the public.

Athens Fire Auxiliary tournament
The Athens Fire and Rescue Auxiliary Golf Tournament will be Thursday, Oct. 17, at Canebrake Club. Activities begin with 11:30 a.m. lunch, followed by 12:45 p.m. rules meeting, and shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $400 per four-person team; Mulligan package is $20 per player. Blue Springs Fall Festival
The Blue Springs Elementary School PTO is accepting local and area businesses to participate as vendors in its annual Fall Festival to be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. Toys for Tots registration
Registration will take place from 9 a.m. until noon and 1-4 p.m. on Thursdays, Oct. 17 and Nov. 7, at the United Way office, 419 S. Marion St. Information required for registration includes birth certificates for each child, Social Security cards for each child, proof of residency, picture ID for parent or guardian, and proof of income.
