American Legion pancakes

Turkey shoots

Veterans of Foreign Wars invites the public to its annual turkey shoots that begin at 9 a.m. on Saturdays from Oct. 26 through Dec. 7. Shotguns available. More information: Fred 256-233-0213.

Veterans parade entries

NAACP presents STEPS

The Limestone County NAACP is presenting the motivational reading program STEPS (Students Taking Excellence Personally = Success) for kids ages 3-13 at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at Round Island Creek Mission Center, 13829 Lucas Ferry Road. For registration/information, call 256-216-5668.



MEETINGS

• NARFE. National Active and Retired Federal Employees chapter 1480 will meet at 9 a.m. today at the Veterans Museum on Pryor Street in Athens. Guest speaker is Chris Alexander with Blue Cross-Blue Shield. Breakfast served.  More information: Dean Morgan 256-233-0248.

• Democrats. Limestone Democrats will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Catfish Cabin. It will be Dutch treat. Attendees are asked to bring a new or gently used coat to donate to the DHR annual coat giveaway. Robyn Hayden with Alabama Arise will speak on the Affordable Care Act.

• Soil and Water. The Limestone County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 306 Barbecue, 23101 U.S. 72 East. The public is invited.
