Storm spotters training

A storm spotters training class will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Limestone County Event Center, 114 W. Pryor St. The Huntsville Weather Service will conduct the training. More information: Limestone County EMA 256-232-2631.

American Legion birthday dinner

The American Legion Post 49 annual birthday dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Post home on Cloverleaf Drive. Free to all paid-up 2014 members. More information: 256-233-3023.

Respite night

Caregivers Night Out will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Clements Baptist Church, 8690 U.S. 72 West. Make reservations by noon Thursday, March 13, at 256-232-7207.

Food giveaway

Anyone in need may pick up two pounds of beans and three pounds of rice from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington Street. No questions asked. No names taken.

4 Paws and a Book

4 Paws and a Book, a program dedicated to improve reading skills of children ages 5 and older is 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houston Memorial Library. Children may bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier and a registered R.E.A.D. dog. To schedule a time to read, call the library at 256-233-8770.

Corporate Spelling Bee

The 19th annual Corporate Spelling Bee is at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Athens High School cafeteria. Free admission to spectators. Refreshments served. More information: Learn to Read Council 256-230-3050.

Republican meet and greet

A Limestone Country Republican Party meet and greet for local Republican candidates is 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Athens State University ballroom. Each candidate will speak for two minutes. Desserts, coffee and tea will be served.

TUESDAY

Blood drive

An American Red Cross blood drive is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday in the Calhoun Community College Robert Casteen Student Center lobby, 6250 U.S. 31 North in Tanner.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser

Vietnam Veterans of America, chapter 511, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the VVA building, 17915 W. Elm St. The $7 meal includes spaghetti, garlic toast, salad, dessert and drink. Proceeds benefit the VVA scholarship funds.
