A good Samaritan account for Ray Poss, associated with Cap Auto Sales of Rogersville, is open at area Bank Independent branches. Donations go toward medical and related expenses for health issues that include cirrhosis of the liver.

Hamburger Day

Kiwanis Club Hamburger Day is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Big Spring Memorial Park. Loaded charbroiled hamburger, chips, drink and dessert for $5. Proceeds used to sponsor children's programs in the local community. Advance tickets and large orders available from any Kiwanis member. More information: 256-206-2091, 232-2260 or 233-3367.

Veterans employment workshop

Area veterans can learn how to apply for federal and state jobs at workshops held the first Monday of each month. Next scheduled workshops are at 1:30 p.m. on May 5, June 2 and July 7 at Decatur Alabama Career Center. Space is limited. Call 256-355-0142 to reserve a seat.

Flag raising ceremony

There will be a flag raising ceremony at the grave of PFC Gary Lewis Elmore at 10 a.m.  Saturday, May 3, in Roselawn Cemetery. Elmore was the first soldier from Limestone County killed in action in Vietnam. Donations for his headstone can be made to: Regions Bank/Gary Elmore Headstone Fund. MEETINGS

• NARFE. National Association of Retired Federal Employees chapter 1480 will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Veterans Museum on Pryor Street. Limestone County Archivist Rebekah Davis is guest speaker. Breakfast will be served. Contact: Dean Morgan 256-232-7207.

• Athens fellowship. The Athens Fellowship Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Center for Lifelong Learning on The Square. The public is invited to take part in a conversation of faith. Sponsored by Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
