THURSDAY

Ham radio classes

Anyone interested in free classes on becoming an amateur ham radio operator can attend an organizational meeting at 7:30 tonight at Limestone County Emergency Management, 1101 W. Market St. Hosted by Limestone A.R.E.S.

SATURDAY

Tech Center open house

The Limestone Career Technical Center will hold an open house from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at 505 E. Sanderfer Road in Athens. The public is invited.  Skills USA, a Career Tech Student Organization, will also hold its local competitions.

Reading program

The Limestone County NAACP free motivational reading program for children ages 3-13 will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Round Island Creek Mission Center, 13829 Lucas Ferry Road. Lunch and transportation provided. Registration information: 256-216-5668.

Jessica Elkins Pageant

The Jessica Elkins Memorial Pageant will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Athens Middle School Auditorium. Registration is 6-8 p.m. Friday and 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday. Fee is $50 per entry. Additional fee for photogenic category. There is also an Ugly Walk.  Proceeds go to the Jessica Elkins Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jessica died Dec. 26, 2007, of bacterial meningitis.

MONDAY

Poke Sallet tickets

Tickets for Poke Sallet 2014, “Home Sweet Home,” go on sale Monday at Athens Senior Center. Doors open at 7 a.m. After that, tickets will be sold Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Mondays, from 5-8 p.m. No tickets will be held and all must be paid for at time of purchase. Make checks payable to Foundation on Aging.

TUESDAY

Used book sale

The Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

ONGOING

Elkmont beauty walk

Registration is underway through Feb. 26 for the Elkmont High School band’s eighth annual beauty walk to be held March8-9. Any preschooler can enter from outside the Elkmont school district.
