Holiday Home Tour

The Athens Ladies Civitan will host its third annual Holiday Home Tour from 1-5 p.m. today. The self-guided tour takes participants through five Athens homes decorated for the holidays. Six local caterers will provide a variety of treats to enjoy at each home. Tickets are $20 and available at each featured home. More information: 256-233-0258.

TUESDAY

Child abuse prevention mini-conference

The Limestone County District Attorney’s Office and the Athens-Limestone Children’s Advocacy Center are hosting the first Child Abuse Prevention and Investigation mini-conference Tuesday and Wednesday at the Event Center, 114 West Pryor St. Registration is $15 for each day or $25 for both. Christmas Tree Lighting

Local children referred from the Boys & Girls Club will receive toys from Santa and Mrs. Claus  at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park annual Christmas tree lighting. A few bicycles will be given away. Hot chocolate and refreshments will be served. Children must have been referred to receive toys or be in the bicycle drawing. Sponsored by the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee.

Legislative forum

The Limestone County legislative delegation will meet the public and answer questions from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday during a legislative forum at the Athens State University ballroom.

THURSDAY

Athens Christmas Parade

The 10th annual Reliance Bank Christmas Parade is Thursday, with a 6 p.m. start at Athens High School on U.S. 31. Float lineup begins at 3:15. The theme is A Storybook Christmas. The parade goes west along Hobbs Street, winds around the courthouse, travels down Jefferson Street and ends at Hometown Grocery.

FRIDAY

Holiday Party library fundraiser

This year’s Holiday Party fundraiser for the new Athens-Limestone Public Library is from 6-9 p.m. Friday and hosted by Jim and Kristi Christopher. Tickets are $75 per person and include a tour of their historic home, 311 N. Jefferson St., an open bar, music and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are limited to the first 200 sold and are available at the library, 405 E. South St., or online at www.athenslimestone.lib.al.us.

SATURDAY

Wreath-making workshop

A wreath-making workshop led by Glenda Richardson will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St. in Athens. A $30 fee includes supplies and instruction. Proceeds fund Outreach which includes the monthly beans and rice giveaway. Space is limited. Registration required at 256-232-3541.

Brunch with Santa

Cowart Elementary School’s Brunch with Santa is from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the school. More information: 256-233-6627.

Respite night

Lindsay Lane Baptist Church at 1300 Lindsay Lane will host a special respite from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday to allow caregivers  special time for Christmas shopping. Make reservations by noon Dec. 5 at 256-232-7207.

Farmers Market ribbon-cutting

The public is invited to a 2:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting Saturday to see improvements to Farmers Market at the corner of Green and Houston streets. The market area will open at 2 p.m. to view work done by volunteers with a $20,000 Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful grant. Athens Saturday Market Committee will follow the ribbon-cutting with a 3-7 p.m. special day at the market with vendors, crafts and more.

Rogersville Christmas Parade

The Rogersville Kiwanis Christmas Parade is at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The theme is Holiday’s for Heroes and organizers welcome all veterans active or retired to participate.  More information: rogersvillealabama.com.

Christmas concert

The Athens State University Community Band Christmas Concert is at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at Carter Gymnasium. The event is free to the public.

MEETINGS

• Addiction support. The Family Addiction Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 in the First National Bank Community Room at 1880 U.S. 72 East in Athens. The public is welcome at this planned monthly meeting. More information: Family Addiction Support Group Facebook page.

• Dixie Stitchers. The Athens Dixie Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at Friendship Methodist Church on Lucas Ferry Road for its Christmas party which requires bringing a covered dish and quilt related gift for the gift exchange.  More information: 256-233-3113.
