THURSDAY

National Day of Prayer

A National Day of Prayer service will be held at noon today on the east side of The Square under the flagpole. Prayers will be led by the Athens-Limestone Ministerial Association for those affected by recent weather events. The public is invited.

FRIDAY

Hamburger Day

Kiwanis Club Hamburger Day is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at Big Spring Memorial Park. Loaded charbroiled hamburger, chips, drink and dessert for $5. Proceeds used to sponsor children's programs in the local community. Advance tickets and large orders available from any Kiwanis member. More information: 256-206-2091, 232-2260 or 233-3367.

SATURDAY

Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

North Border breakfast

North Border Lodge on Salemfield Lane will have a communitywide breakfast from 7-9 a.m. Saturday. The public is invited. More information: Mickey Robertson: 256-232-2335.

VVA shoot

Vietnam Veterans of America Gary Elmore Chapter 511 turkey,ham and prize shoot will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the post at 17915 W. Elm St. Shotguns only; chapter will provide ammo at  $4 per shot. Funds are used to assist veterans. 

Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. Saturday at 100 W. Pryor St. Collins Supply Inc. is the sponsor. Contact: Steve Hornberger 256-771-7578.

Place flags on veterans graves

A meeting for anyone interested in helping place flags on the graves of area veterans on Memorial Day will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday during Coffee Call at the Alabama Veterans Museum, 100 W. Flag raising ceremony

There will be a flag raising ceremony at the grave of PFC Gary Lewis Elmore at 10 a.m.  Saturday in Roselawn Cemetery. Elmore was the first soldier from Limestone County killed in action in Vietnam.
