FRIDAY

AHS pep rally

Athens High School’s annual pep rally on The Square will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 30, on the east side of the Limestone County Courthouse. AHS hosts Decatur at 7 tonight at Golden Eagles Stadium.

Horton family reunion

The biennial Horton family reunion for relatives of James Horton will begin today, Friday, Aug. 30, and continue through Monday, Sept. 1, in Athens. Today, a meet-and-greet will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Bridgeforth Park, followed by a block party at 9. Saturday, horseback riding begins at 10 a.m. at the Vietnam Veterans building, 17915 W. Elm St., followed by a picnic from noon-1 p.m. and a hayride to the Horton family property leaving at 3. Sunday, worship begins at 11 a.m. at St. Marks Primitive Baptist Church on Summerville Road, followed by meeting at home of reunion chairman Mike Bailey, 700 Coleman Ave., 256-874-0565.

Firefighter’s breakfast

A firefighter’s breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Bojangles’ on U.S. 72 East. Contact: Paul Irons 256-232-5402.

Elkmont High car show

The third-annual Elkmont High School Band Car Show will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the school, 25630 Evans Ave. Registration, which admits two people, is $15 in advance and $20 on Saturday. Patterson reunion

The James Early and Mary Springer Patterson family reunion will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 31, at the home of Billy and Linda Patterson. More information: 256-729-1776.

Glanton-Vinson reunion

The annual Glanton-Vinson family/friends reunion begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Owens Senior Center on Alabama 99. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and old family pictures. Copier available. Contact: Judy Jackson 256-777-0551.

Bean Day donations

Donations are needed for the upcoming Bean Day General Store to include homemade items such as jellies, jams, relish, pickles, crafts, etc. Proceeds go to Limestone County senior centers. To donate, contact Jennifer Reece at 256-233-6412.
