Holiday Party library fundraiser

This year’s Holiday Party fundraiser for the new Athens-Limestone Public Library is from 6-9 tonight and hosted by Jim and Kristi Christopher. Tickets are $75 per person and include a tour of their historic home, 311 N. Jefferson St., an open bar, music and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are limited to the first 200 sold and are available at the library, 405 E. South St., or online at www.athenslimestone.lib.al.us.

Cutler/Eaton breakfast

All former Cutler-Hammer and Eaton Corp. employees are invited to a breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday at Shoney’s on U.S. 72.

Wreath-making workshop

A wreath-making workshop led by Glenda Richardson will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St. in Athens. A $30 fee includes supplies and instruction. Proceeds fund Outreach which includes the monthly beans and rice giveaway. Space is limited. Registration required at 256-232-3541.

Brunch with Santa

Cowart Elementary School’s Brunch with Santa is from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the school. More information: 256-233-6627.

Respite night

Lindsay Lane Baptist Church at 1300 Lindsay Lane will host a special respite from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday to allow caregivers  special time for Christmas shopping. Make reservations by noon Dec. 5 at 256-232-7207.

Used book sale

The Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

Farmers Market ribbon-cutting

The public is invited to a 2:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting Saturday to see improvements to Farmers Market at the corner of Green and Houston streets. The market area will open at 2 p.m. to view work done by volunteers with a $20,000 Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful grant.

Bring the kids to visit with Santa and KALB’s Sparky. 

Rogersville Christmas Parade

The Rogersville Kiwanis Christmas Parade is at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The theme is Holiday’s for Heroes and organizers welcome all veterans active or retired to participate.  More information: rogersvillealabama.com.

Christmas concert

The Athens State University Community Band Christmas Concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Carter Gymnasium. The event is free to the public.

Used book sale

‘Three Days at Foster’

“Three Days at Foster,” the award-winning documentary film about civil rights and University of Alabama sports directed, written and produced by Athens native Keith Dunnavant, will be shown at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sandridge Student Center at Athens State. Limited tickets are available for $15 at the Center for Lifelong Learning on the Limestone County Courthouse Square, as well as ASU’s Office of University Advancement at 433 E. Pryor St.

THURSDAY

Athens Christmas parade

The 10th annual Reliance Bank Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. It will start at Athens High School on U.S. 31. Float lineup begins at 3:15. The theme is “A Storybook Christmas.” The parade goes west along Hobbs Street, winds around the courthouse, travels down Jefferson Street and ends at Hometown Grocery.

Elkmont Christmas parade

The Elkmont Lions Club annual Christmas Parade will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 14. Entry forms are available at www.elkmontlionsclub.com , Elkmont Town Hall, Citizens Bank & Trust or from Lions Club members. Entry fee is $20. There is no fee for horses and fire trucks.

Boy Scout Christmas trees sale

East Limestone Boy Scout Troop 7236 is selling Fraser fir Christmas trees through Dec. 21 or until sold out at the corner of East Limestone and Capshaw roads at the old Reliance Bank lot. The sale is a fundraiser to buy troop camping equipment.

Korea show CDs available

CDs of the show “Korea, The Forgotten War Remembered” are available for pickup between 9a.m. and 3p.m., Mondays thru Fridays at the Alabama Veterans Museum, 100 W. Pryor St., in Athens.  The CDs will also be available during Coffee Call on Dec. 7.

• Coffee Call. Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. Dec. 7. It is sponsored by Mel and Wanda McLemore and Paul and Susan Neely. “Korea, The Forgotten War Remembered” show CDs will also be available. More information: 256-771-7578.

• Cancer support. The American Cancer Society support group will meet for dinner and a Christmas party at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at Shoney’s on U.S. 72. Survivors and caregivers in attendance are asked to bring a $10 gift for dirty Santa.

• Soil and Water. The Limestone County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Natural Resources Conservation Service Office at 1795 U.S. 72 East, Suite 102. The public is invited.
