Fiddlers Convention

The 47th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention continues today, Oct. 5, at Athens State University. Musical competitions at Founders Hall resume at 8:30 a.m. today. Cost is $10 for Saturday. Children ages 12 and under admitted free with parent. Tickets at the gate.

Tootsie Roll Drive

The Knights of Columbus annual Tootsie Roll Drive to help support the Birdie Thornton Center and advocate for people with intellectual disabilities continues through Sunday, Oct. 6. Donation locations are Oct. 5: Walmart, Kmart, Hometown Grocery from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Athens Beverage from 1-8 p.m.; Oct. 6 at Walmart, Kmart and Hometown Grocery from noon until 6 p.m.

Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. today, Oct. 5, at the library, 405 E. South St.  For more information, call (256) 232-1233.

Coffee Call

Alabama Veterans Museum & Archives Coffee Call will be from 8-9 a.m. today, Oct. 5. It is sponsored by Rose and Grover Gardner and Champion Chevrolet. The museum is at 100 W. Pryor St., Athens.

Benefit stew/bake sale

The family of Ruben Quiroz is holding a benefit chicken stew/bake sale today, Oct. 5, at the Owens Fire Department. Bring own container. More information: 256-233-8924.

Prospect Cemetery Association

The fall meeting of the Prospect Cemetery Association will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Prospect, Tenn., Rescue Squad building. More information: Charlie Crosby 256-216-5840.

Reyer reunion

The Reyer family reunion will be Sunday, Oct. 6, in the First National Bank community room, 26599 Main St., Ardmore. A covered dish lunch will be at 1 p.m. More information: 256-423-3537.

Gospel Explosion
