The 47th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention continues today, Oct. 5, at Athens State University. Musical competitions at Founders Hall resume at 8:30 a.m. today. Cost is $10 for Saturday. Children ages 12 and under admitted free with parent. Tickets at the gate.
Tootsie Roll Drive
The Knights of Columbus annual Tootsie Roll Drive to help support the Birdie Thornton Center and advocate for people with intellectual disabilities continues through Sunday, Oct. 6. Donation locations are Oct. 5: Walmart, Kmart, Hometown Grocery from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Athens Beverage from 1-8 p.m.; Oct. 6 at Walmart, Kmart and Hometown Grocery from noon until 6 p.m.
Used book sale

Used book sale

Salvation Army will take applications for Christmas assistance from 9 a.m.-noon Monday, Oct. 7, through Friday, Oct. 11, at the thrift store at 699 E. Hobbs St. in Athens. Bring proof of identification, all bills, telephone number, verification of income. No applications will be taken over the phone; no children are allowed at application day.
Athens Fire Auxiliary tournament
The Athens Fire and Rescue Auxiliary Golf Tournament will be Oct. 17 at Canebrake Club. Activities begin with 11:30 a.m. lunch, followed by 12:45 p.m. rules meeting, and shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $400 per four-person team; Mulligan package is $20 per player. Haunts Walk tickets
Athens-Limestone County Tourism office has a few tickets left for the Haunts Walk on Oct. 8 and 15. There are two tours, 6:30 p.m. and 7. Tickets for all ages are $5 each. Tours last 1 1/2 to 2 hours and leave from the Visitor Center’s meeting room side-door at 100 N. Beaty Street. • Cancer Survivors. Cancer Survivors Support Group will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Shoney’s.
• AHS Booster Club. Athens High School Athletic Booster Club will met at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the AHS cafeteria. All Golden Eagles supporters are invited.
