Game of the Week

Rattlers ramble in the rain

  • Elkmont advances
Don Jacobs gave his chest a gentle pat as he sat down in his office chair Friday night.
“I don’t think this old mans heart could have took much more of that,” he said.

  • Rattlers on a roll
TANNER— Two new chapters were written into the history books at Rip Swanner Stadium Friday night.
For the first time since 1994, Tanner’s 24-9 win over Elkmont helped the Rattlers’ end the regular season on a perfect 10-0 note. As for the Red Devils, the loss helped them claim the football programs first region championship in school history.

  • Athens fall short
There was no question that Friday night’s game at Golden Eagle Stadium was going to be a battle. Especially since the second seed in Class 5A, Region 8 was on the line.

  • Tanner goes to 8-0 with 28-7 win over Cherokee
Laron White was a little concerned heading into Friday nights game with Class 2A, Region 8 Cherokee.
With all the publicity his team has received lately, the Tanner head coach was worried how they would respond.

  • Mustangs stampede to 35-8 victory over West Limestone
James Kennemer Stadium had a strange feeling to it in West Limestone’s 35-8 loss Friday night. It didn’t have the typical game night excitement to it.
The fans were quiet, the players weren’t excited and the play calling from both sides of the field could easily be heard from the stands.

  • Rogers not so jolly
Coaches and players never like losing games, especially those with a lot of meaning. But just like life, there’s always good that comes out of the bad.

  • Brooks spoils Athens homecoming 28-14
Athens led 7-0 after the first quarter, but Brooks scored the next 28 points to spoil the Golden Eagles homecoming game, winning by the final score of 28-14.
The non-region loss dropped 5A Athens to 3-2, 3-0 for the season. Region 4A Brooks, ranked fourth in the state, advanced to 5-0.

  • Big second half lifts Athens to 34-3 victory over Indians
Allen Creasy had one message for his team this week in prepartion for Friday’s matchup with East Limestone—How will you respond?
Signs were posted throughout the Athens locker room all week as a constant reminder. One even made it’s way to the sideline of Cavnar Field.

  • Tanner wears down Lexington for a 28-21 win over region rival
Laron White knew going into Friday night’s game with Lexington that it was going to be a battle until the end. And that’s exactly what it was.
