Election 2012: Athens City Council District 5 Candidate Brian Terry

— I am proud to call Athens home. I credit my abilities and characteristics on the traditional values that I was taught to my family and the community.

My wife, Michelle, and I have lived here our entire lives, raised two children and been actively involved in our community.

I have taught at the Limestone Career Technical Center for 23 years, served on the council, planning commission and have extensive architectural design experience. I have served on numerous education committees and volunteered to work on projects with local non-profit and civic organizations such as Hospice of Limestone County, Veterans Museum, Athens-Limestone Homebuilders Association, Lions Club, Athens Schools Foundation and the baseball/softball associations.

My previous experience on the council includes working with all department managers to develop conservative budgets, increasing the city’s reserve fund and providing resources for all departments. Together we have written resolutions, ordinances and a variety of grants that have benefited the citizens of Athens. With a full understanding of the city’s operations, I will be able to walk through the doors of city hall and go straight to work.

While campaigning, I have listened to the citizens’ concerns and comprised a needs list for District 5. We must continue the current efforts for the expansion and repair of sidewalks, re-paving of streets, correcting drainage problems and upgrading the sewer system. The enforcement and improvement of the city’s litter/weed control and public nuisance ordinance is essential as we progress in the clean-up efforts of District 5.

I will promote District 5 with the cooperation of the citizens, mayor, council and business owners in an effort to bring commercial business development back to this area. I will be fair to all citizens and stand up for what is right and stand against wrongs.

I am appreciative for the past District 5 representatives such as Dr. Milly Caudle, Henry White and the late Robert Allen Tinnon. I will maintain and strive to expand their leadership legacies.

I will be accessible by a variety of methods to the citizens and pledge to host district town hall meetings.

I simply request that you ask yourself, “Which candidate for District 5 will work the hardest for the district and the city?”. I will listen to your concerns and represent you with integrity, honesty and a caring attitude. I humbly ask for your vote for Brian K. Terry on August 28.
