My name is Chris Seibert and I am a native of Limestone County.
I decided to run for the Athens City Council after years of discussions with residents who felt like although Athens is a wonderful city, we need fresh ideas. As a businessman and father of two young children, I want to step forward with a new perspective to our city government.
Cities do not become great without great leadership and it does not happen by chance. We truly have to make it happen. The decisions we make about our future will manifest themselves 10 years and beyond.
I will actively work to support local retailers and local business. I will support continued revitalization of our downtown area. I think it’s critical for city government to take an active role in bringing new jobs to our city and county, I will work to create jobs and bring all types of industry to our community.
We have a great city school system that I will continue to look for ways to help improve. Athens has a great local hospital that my family has used and I will support our community’s use of that institution. I think it is important to be fiscally responsible with your tax dollars, and I commit to be responsible with our local budget and make decisions to benefit our citizens across our city.
Finally, I think we have a beautiful city and I will work to ensure our community remains clean and safe for our local residents and to any tourists we have as guests to Athens.
I spent over seven years serving as an officer in the United States Air Force and have worked in the private sector medical field for seven years, currently serving in a leadership role for a cardiac treatment company. I feel strongly about giving back to our community and being a part of something greater than one’s self. I think my business and military leadership experience will bring a unique transformative view to city government. I would be honored to serve as your city councilman for District 1 and ask for your vote on Aug. 28.
