Backyard cooks and hungry folks needed for April 26-27 event

Mmm, barbecue. There’s something about a fresh April day paired with a grill or a slow cooker wafting the sweet smell of all things Southern. Make no butts ... err plenty of butts about it, most Limestone Countians love their barbecue.

Many are already busy preparing for the Best Buckin’ BBQ Cook-Off — an annual event that raises tens of thousands of dollars for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens-Limestone County and Limestone County Children’s Advocacy Center.

This year’s shade tree event, sponsored by nonprofit group Southern Crossroads, will be April 26-27 at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena at 17836 Alabama 99 near Athens.

This is the eighth year for Southern Crossroads to host the event. Organizers need backyard barbecues to join in the event.
