— Mention the words “Girl Scout Cookies” in a crowd and more than likely someone’s face will light up.

Thin mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos, Trefoils, Thank U Berry Munch, Dulce de Leche, Savannah Smiles — most cookie lovers have a favorite.

Limestone Countians who don’t know what the cookies have to offer will soon have an opportunity to sample all eight flavors.

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama will host a tasting from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Athens Recreation Center.

The event is free to the public.

The tasting event will also include games and activities for kids.

Girl Scout troops of Limestone County will be on-hand to sell cookies for $3.50 a box, and proceeds stay in North-Central Alabama to support local troops.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls five essential skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics, according to Community Development Manager Debbie Hicks of Girls Scouts of North-Central Alabama. Girls decide how they will use proceeds from sales throughout the year.

Those interested in joining Girl Scouts can also sign up during the event. The organization is open to all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade. The membership fee is $15.
