Published July 18, 2008 10:45 pm - Musical legacy celebrated Delmore Days fill Athens with pickin’, grinnin’ Lacey Snider, photo 1, from Rogersville, belts out her rendition of Hank Williams’ “Jambalaya” Friday night at the Delmore Days bluegrass festival at Athens State University’s Beasley Field with fiddler Tori Huntley accompanying her. In photo 2, Kadie Stevens of Muscle Shoals makes freshly-squeezed lemonade during the festival, which continues today. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children under age 12. Brothers Alton and Rabon Delmore, born and raised in Elkmont, are generally recognized as country music’s first recording duet. Grand Ole Opry regulars during their heyday in the 1930s, their songwriting and tight harmony vocals were a huge influence on a later generation of artists, inspiring the Everly Brothers, the Beatles and even Bob Dylan.
