Feeling helpless over annexations
Dear Editor:
I live on Burgreen Road, on the Limestone County side, but I have a Madison address. Everything around my area just got annexed.
I’ve been worried about this for more than a few months now, and now that it has happened I feel very helpless. I feel like there isn't going to be a Limestone County if something isn't done. It seems like the surrounding counties are taking advantage of the people of Limestone County. We should at least have the chance to speak our opinions on the matter of annexation before it happens.
I don’t want to be surrounded by Huntsville. I chose where I live for a reason; it’s central to Madison, Decatur, and Athens, but still in the country, and when my 4-year-old goes to school he would be attending a school that I went to and loved.
If I wanted him to go to school in Madison, we would have moved to the other side of County Line Road. (Which needs to be renamed because it's clearly not the county line any more.)
I feel like the residents of Limestone County are being treated like we don’t matter, and that no one is looking out for us, they are just looking out for their pocketbooks.
I am at a loss for what to do. I don’t want our land taken from us that we’ve worked so hard for, I don’t want to be forced to move and live in a subdivision, because that is all that’s available in this area now.
I’ve written everyone I can think of, and I've told everyone I know to write also. It just doesn’t seem to be helping.
Sincerely,
Bama Vinson
Madison
Annexations need to be stopped
