Company B to reunite

Dear Editor:

Members of Company B 1343rd Combat Engineers who served in the Korean War will hold a reunion at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives July 5.

A social hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m. All members of Company B, their wives and the wives of those members who are no longer with us are invited. Cost is $20 per person.

There have been those who have wanted to entertain us at the event. We appreciate the offer but due to limited space, the reunion committee decided to have no music, no singing and no dancing; only fellowship, a good meal and a business meeting.

This will be our 58th-year reunion!

Volunteers helped collect hazardous waste

Dear Editor:

A sincere thank you to all those volunteers who worked so hard Saturday, May 31 to collect, sort and pack for shipment the hazardous waste that residents brought to the recycling center.

The hours of operation were stated from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fortunately, the volunteers were ready to start by 7 a.m. as a long line of vehicles was already backing up.

Drivers were asked three questions — their zip code, were they a resident of city or county and how they learned of the collection. A tally of the number of vehicles is available. It would be interesting to learn the volume of collect materials.
