Haunts Walks a success

Dear Editor:

The Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association would like to thank the community for participating in our annual Haunts Walks again this year. Tour guides Bill Ward and Shane Black are extraordinary at making the ghost tales come to life and building suspense and anticipation.

We had guests from Decatur, Madison, Ardmore, Tanner, Huntsville, Elkmont, Rogersville, Minor Hill, West Limestone and, of course, Athens. We had the tours on four Tuesday nights, one at 6:30 and one at 7 p.m., with 27 to 30 people in each walk. That brought roughly 240 people to our town and the Athens Visitor Center in October.

Along with our silver-tongued tour guides, we had our tale-lights. Thank you to Monica Nelson at First National Bank and to Debra Porter at the Chamber for securing these volunteers for the safety of our guests.

The tale-lights are the people who keep everyone together, safe at all the street and railroad crossing and they also have the flashlights. They were volunteers from First National Bank’s Student Advisory Board in the 11th and 12th grades. Also serving as tale-lights were members of the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Ambassadors.”

Thank you all for your assistance making this a sellout Haunts Walks again this year. We have already started with a list for 2014 with over a hundred names of those who were unable to purchase tickets for this year’s walk. Remember, we will have our Historical Walks each Saturday at 10 a.m. starting in April 2014.

Stop by and see us anytime at the Visitor Center home of Duck Tourism!

Do you think Athens-Limestone County is better prepared than in April 2011 to provide shelter from a major tornado?
