An Elkmont man has been returned to Limestone County to face a murder charge later this year.

Casey Wayne Anderson, 30, of 24142 Slate Road was transferred Sunday to the Limestone County Jail from the Bibb County Correctional Facility in Brent, where he had finished serving time, said Paul Cain of the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department. He was freed Monday after posting a $25,000 bond, Cain said.

Anderson is accused of kicking Benjamin Tinnon, 33, of Piney Chapel in the head with his work boots and causing his death five days later in May 2007.

His trial is set for April 20,

Anderson was indicted for murder by a Limestone County grand jury in September 2007.

Tinnon was allegedly kicked in the head during a fight at his home at Country Lane Apartments. Two days after the fight, Tinnon was found unresponsive and taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital with severe head wounds.

Anderson was arrested by Limestone County authorities and charged with second-degree assault.

Tinnon was transferred to Huntsville Hospital, where he died three days later.

Authorities sought the murder charge after seeing autopsy results.

After the fight, witnesses told investigators it did not appear Tinnon’s injuries were severe. They also told investigators Anderson “just snapped” and started beating Tinnon.

Investigators said there was drinking going on but they had not determined what might have caused the fight.
