Athens police have arrested a 19-year-old Athens teenager in connection with the assault last week on another city teenager.
Capt. Marty Bruce said Warren Fitzgerald White, of 2102 Stanford St., Athens, was arrested late Monday and charged with second-degree assault. White is accused of hitting Nicholas Orlando Gordon in the head with a stick and beer bottle on March 19.
The assault occurred on Levert Avenue, investigators said.
“Gordon was walking down the street when White pulled up in a vehicle, got out and struck Gordon on the head,” Bruce said.
White was transferred to the Limestone County Jail. Bond was set at $5,000.
Detective Dustin Lansford said police found Gordon lying in a ditch on the side of the road at Levert Avenue and Ninth Street. He said when officers arrived he was bleeding from the head.
Police were told the two men had been fighting on the street when White picked up a stick and hit Gordon over the head with it a couple of times.
Gordon was treated in the Athens-Limestone Hospital emergency room and later released.
Police said the two were acquainted with one another and were involved in an earlier fight.
“We think that is the reason they got into the latest fist fight on the street,” said Lansford although one man said it was over a girl, while the other said it was not.”
