An Ardmore man led Limestone County authorities on a 20-minute chase through Alabama and Tennessee on Monday morning, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour before he crashed and was captured.

Timothy Wayne Collins, 35, of Alabama 251 has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude and reckless driving, Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said.

“About 11 a.m., one of our narcotics officers, Investigator Josh McLaughlin, spotted a guy they had been watching and expecting to move some crystal meth,” Blakely said.

McLaughlin tried to stop Collins on Interstate 65, but he took the Elkmont exit to Shipley Hollow Road, then took Pettusville Road north into Giles County, Tenn., then back to Alabama on State Line Street and then to Spence Cave Road. He went back up to Tennessee and finally struck a ditch along Prospect, which deployed his airbags, and he fled on foot through a cotton field. McLaughlin caught him.

“During the vehicle chase he threw out a small container with various paraphernalia, scales, crystal meth and controlled-substance pills,” Blakely said.

Tennessee officials searched Collins’ vehicle and found 8 grams of crystal meth and pills, for which they charged him.

He will be prosecuted in Tennessee and then returned to Alabama to face Limestone County’s charges, Blakely said.
