Fire marshal took carpet, floor samples from Ardmore home

A state fire marshal collected carpet and floor samples from the bedroom of an Ardmore home that burned Friday to determine if the fire was set.

A home at 29825 Ardmore Avenue caught fire about 3 p.m., and is likely a total loss, said Ardmore Fire Chief Tim Toone.

Firefighters from Oak Grove and Elkmont assisted and were able to quench the fire in about 15 minutes, but about 30 percent of the home burned, he said.

No one was home at the time.

Firefighters considered the fire suspicious because it started on the bedroom floor, so they called the state fire marshal’s office, the chief said.

“There was nothing, like anything electrical, to spark it,” Toone said.

A fire marshal collected samples of both the floor and the carpeting in order to test them for accelerants, he said. He will also conduct some interviews, the chief said.

It could be six months before Ardmore receives the fire marshal’s findings.
