An Elkmont man accused of fondling a 20-year-old convenience-store employee has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse, according to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department.

Manuel Theodore Martinez, 29, of 23810 Norman Lane, was arrested just before noon Tuesday at the woman’s workplace, said Limestone County Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt.

Authorities declined to name the store, which has an Athens address, to avoid identifying the complainant.

“Martinez is accused of fondling the adult woman over the weekend,” McNatt said. “She knew him but did not have any kind of relationship with him.”

Limestone Sheriff’s Investigator Leslie Ramsey was assigned to the case and determined there was adequate evidence to charge Martinez.
