Officials of Calhoun Community College recently announced the parking/renovation project for the college’s Huntsville/Cummings Research Park campus is set to begin today.

According to the current construction schedule, the parking should be completed by the end of September, with the inside renovation project set to wrap up by the end of November.

Starting Monday, the front part of the building will be blocked from general use. The only access to the front of the building will be for Sci-Quest loading, construction workers, limited handicapped access, and some visitor parking.

All others entering the campus will be requested to park behind the building. According to Huntsville campus dean Alicia Taylor, the contractors will use most of the front for trucks and equipment and for loading and storing of materials and supplies.

“The exit in the front of the building will remain, along with the handicapped parking and about 15 parking spots,” said Taylor. During the construction project, the ‘exit only’ from Wynn Drive will become a two-way entrance and an exit, with limited usage for handicapped.

“We realize that there will be challenges with parking and some inconveniences during the renovation, so we are asking for everyone’s patience during the project,” Taylor added.

The project is expected to add 200 additional parking spaces. The inside renovated space will provide several new state-of-the-art classrooms, a new student center, a new bookstore and over 5,500 square feet of additional space to be used for the college’s Adult Education program.
