Parking lots are precarious places when motorists drive too fast, fail to look before reversing or cut across empty rows. Mary Kimball, 74, knows all too well. A hit-and-run driver struck her scooter at the Hometown Grocery parking lot Tuesday morning.
Kimball was helping her daughter load groceries into her truck when the driver of a blue and gray two-door car backed into the scooter, pushed it into the back bumper of the truck and then left without stopping, said Athens Police Capt. Floyd Johnson.
Athens Fire Department and the ambulance service responded to the scene, but Kimball said she was not injured.
