A 24-year-old Decatur man died when he was thrown from the automobile in which he was riding early Tuesday morning near the Mooresville exit of Interstate 565.
Limestone County Coroner Mike West identified the dead man as Jimenez Tomas, of 1309 Sixth Ave.
According to Sgt. Steve Lowhorne of the Huntsville Police Department West Precinct, Tomas was riding in a 1997 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by Diego Rodriguez, 31, of Decatur. He said Tomas was not wearing a seat belt and was in the back seat behind fellow passenger Jarme Jose, 27, also of Decatur.
“It appears they went off the roadway and were a bout to hit a guardrail,” said Lowhorne. “The driver over corrected, went sideways in the road and then flipped maybe six or seven times. Tomas was ejected.”
Lowhorne said Rodriguez and Jose were transported to Huntsville Hospital after the 6:28 a.m. one-vehicle wreck, where they were treated and released.
“They had nothing on them that identified them,” said Lowhorne. “The brother of the deceased just showed up in the emergency room and identified them.”
West said Tomas’ body was taken to Limestone Chapel Funeral Home and that his brother was expected to make arrangements.
