Limestone superintendent joins leaders trying to improve schools

Limestone County Schools Superintendent Barry Carroll is one of 28 superintendents statewide who will participate in an ongoing forum about strategies to improve teaching and learning in their schools, according to a press release from Alabama Best Practices Center.

Participating superintendents will attend a two-day retreat and two one-day sessions during the 2008-09 school year.

“These superintendents demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence,” said Cathy Gassenheimer, executive vice president for the Alabama Best Practices Center. “By agreeing to participate in the Superintendents Leaders Network, each one has committed to a powerful learning experience that will surely strengthen their schools.”

SLN is for forward-thinking superintendents in kindergarten through 12th grade public schools. The goal is to engage them in an ongoing forum about strategies to improve teaching and learning in their schools, the press release states. The network, created at the request of superintendents themselves, is modeled on the ABPC’s successful Key Leaders Network, which serves principals and administrators in district offices.

The network was established by the ABPC and the School Superintendents of Alabama, and funded by the Malone Family Foundation, according to the press release.

Other area superintendents joining the forum are: Sam Houston of Decatur City Schools; Ann Roy Moore of Huntsville City Schools; and Terry Davis of Madison County Schools.
