Limestone schools hire, transfer employees

Limestone County school board members hired and transferred employees and handled other business during their meeting Monday at Elkmont High School. The board took the following action:
• Agreed to hiring the following people: Mandy Phillips as math teacher at Ardmore High School; Lisa Beddingfield as part-time CNP worker/assistant at Cedar Hill Elementary; School; Elizabeth Bates as special-education inclusion assistant at Clements High School; Lesle Tate as physical education teacher at Clements; Mark Newsome as health/physical education at East Limestone High School; Jennifer Pollock as general science teacher at East Limestone; Aimee Pressnell as bus driver at East Limestone and Creekside Elementary School; Carrie Gervais as itinerant speech pathologist at Owens Elementary School and West Limestone High School; Michele Selfridge as itinerant speech pathologist at Piney Chapel Elementary School and Creekside Elementary School; Ashley Coffman as elementary teacher at Tanner High School; Kerri Pack as ACCESS lab facilitator at West Limestone; and Margie Adams as full-time utility bus driver at bus garage.
• Agreed to transfer the following people: Tonna Heard to ACCESS facilitator at Ardmore; Ruth Brewer to special-education bus assistant at Cedar Hill Elementary School and Ardmore; Stephanie Watson to CNP worker/assistant at Creekside; Erika Hall to itinerant speech pathologist at Creekside and East Limestone; Chad Drake to driver education/head varsity boys basketball coach at East Limestone; Kim Tucker to ACCESS facilitator at East Limestone; Renee Beaube to itinerant speech pathologist at Elkmont and Reid Elementary School; Donna Roop to ACCESS facilitator at Elkmont; Beth Carter to special-education preschool instructional assistant at Johnson; Pennie Davis to special-education preschool instructional assistant at Johnson; Patricia Higginbotham to special-education preschool instruction assistant at Johnson; Kathy Hudson to special-education preschool teacher at Johnson; Karen Pressnell to special-education preschool instructional assistant at Johnson; Meredith Waggoner to special-education preschool teacher at Johnson; Shannon Garrison to math teacher at BEST Academy; Carl Goolsby to tech school bus driver at BEST Academy; Angela Vanhoozer to secretary/bookkeeper at Piney Chapel; Karen Brown to reading coach at Tanner; Tennille Harkins to ACCESS facilitator at Tanner; Sharon Gallien to elementary curriculum coordinator at Central Office; and Robbie Lauderdale to secondary curriculum coordinator at Central Office.
• Approved the following substitutes: Laurie Page as secretary at bus garage; Matt Poff as maintenance worker at bus garage; Sue Roach as teacher at Creekside; and Leigh Davis as teacher at Creekside.
• Accepted the resignations of Sheila Bates as technical specialist at Clements; Paige Gould as secretary/bookkeeper at Piney Chapel; Rita Jackson as language arts teacher at West Limestone; Danny Bates as bus driver at Tanner; and Nancy King as special-education instructional assistant at the Limestone County Career Technical Center.
• Named the following as designated assistant principals: Roger Cobb at Cedar Hill; Rebecca Valenzuela at Johnson; Janice Sutton at Owens; Angie Barnes at Piney Chapel; and Matt Taylor at Reid.
• Approved contracts with the following: Patricia Byrnes for special-education occupational therapy services; $65,000 to Finatra for special-education mentor. Board voted 6-1, with Board President Earl Glaze opposed because he said the services could be covered in-house; Finatra for special-education psychometrist; Finatra for special-education visual impaired specialist; Robin Irwin for special-education physical therapy services; The Riley Behavioral and Educational Center for special-needs children; Ability Plus for special-education transportation; and Laura Aldridge, Nicole Allen, Melinda Bohanon, Monica Eskridge, Kari Forsythe, Angela Hart, Angela Hermosillo, Melissa Hunt, Kim Johnson, Kristen Jones, Holly Nye and Denean Winton for special-education parent transportation.
Also Monday, board members took the following action:
• Agreed to hire Davis Architects of Birmingham to design the special education building at Tanner High School, which is expected to cost about $700,000. Fee will be based on percentage of project bid.
• Agreed to pay $56,300 for Spanish I and Spanish II computer software.
• Agreed to pay American Fidelity $65 a month to monitor allocations for 403(b) services.
• Agreed to move the special education preschool program from Piney Chapel Elementary School to Johnson Elementary School due to inadequate space.
• Granted Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority’s requests for property easements at Johnson Elementary School and Elkmont High School in order to install sewer service.
