A Limestone County veterinarian is facing 277 counts of felony counterfeiting following his arrest in Lincoln County, Tenn.

Bruce Nelson Young, 62, of 311 N. Marion, Athens, was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lincoln County fairgrounds. He was released Monday after posting a $277,000 bond, a dispatcher said.

Investigator Doug Boeringer could not be reached for comment Monday.

Young was arrested along with Jason Heath Clem, 34, of Athens, who was charged with one count of forgery, records show. Although Clem is only charged with one count of forgery, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department computer records show his bond listed at $250,000, the dispatcher said. He remained in jail Monday.

Young is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Alabama, said Theresa Chandler, director of the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners in Decatur.

In the mid-1990s, Young served time in prison on a conviction for conspiracy to commit counterfeiting. He lost his license temporarily around that time, Chandler said.

In November 2003, Young was charged with possession with intent to distribute after Limestone County Sheriff’s officials confiscated from his home Nubain, a synthetic opioid analgesic painkiller, and Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication, which he was accused of selling to others.
