The capital murder trials of three people accused in the November 2006 fatal beating of a 74-year-old Ardmore man have been delayed.

Derrick Green and wife Jeannie Green, both of Ardmore, and Randall “Bingo” Clem of Ardmore, Tenn., are charged with beating Art Champion to death with a hickory stick at his mobile home on Nov. 10. They are also accused of stealing a jug containing money to buy crack cocaine.

Champion’s body was discovered the next day by his hearing-impaired son, who lives in Madison County, Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said at the time. The son found his father lying in a pool of blood on his bedroom floor, the sheriff said. The son went to Ardmore Police with a note about what he had found, Blakely said.

Green’s trial, the first of the three, was set to start Monday. The defense’s request to move his trial was granted and the trial was reset for Dec. 7, said District Attorney Kristi Valls.

Trials for Jeannie Green and Clem will follow.
