Singers invited to join chorus for holiday concert

Interested people are invited to join a chorus that will perform with the Athens State University Community Band during its holiday concert in December.
Terry Jackson, pastor of Athens Church of God, and the church’s music director, Dixie Harrison, hope Limestone County residents of all denominations will join the choir.
The choir will sing with the band, directed by Dan Havely, at its Dec. 2 concert at Athens State University’s McCandless Hall.
Because so many ticket buyers were turned away last year because the hall was filled, a second performance will likely be added this year, said Rick Mould, vice president of university relations. The date will be announced as soon as it is confirmed, he said.
At last year’s event, a combined choir from Athens Church of God and St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church performed. This year, Jackson wanted to invite other denominations.
“Anybody who wants to sing,” he said.
Interested people should attend the choir’s first rehearsal from 7 to 8:30 pm. Monday, Nov. 5 at Athens Church of God. The church is located at the corner of Lucas Ferry Road and W. Hobbs Street, where W. Hobbs becomes Quinn Road.
