Local barbershop harmony accapella chorus, Southern Splendor Chorus will give their first full-fledged show locally in years next week.

The chorus, established in Athens in 2001 and directed by Rick Ramsey, is most popular locally for their performances at area events such as Ardmore’s Crape Myrtle Festival, Athens’ Singing on the Square, Madison’s Gazebo Summer Concert Series and Decatur’s Concerts in the Park. They also split into quartets to give singing Valentine’s.

The group recently placed in the top 10 at the 2008 Dixie District Championship held at the Triboli Theatre in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The chorus will perform a show, entitled “Did you every have a day like this?” beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at the Athens-Limestone County Senior Center, 912 W. Pryor Street.

The show will be very entertaining with comedic parodies about flying, said chorus member Bobby Duling.

The show will also feature the local chapter quartets, Dixie Junction and Power of 4.

The guest quartet, Lunch Break, of Nashville, Tenn., will also be featured. Lunch Break won the Barbershop Harmony’s Society 2007 Dixie District Championship and finished 13th worldwide at the International Barbershop Convention in Nashville. They are part of The Music City Chorus.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students first through twelfth grades, and free admission for children under 6 years of age. For info call (256) 541-5573 or visit the Southern Splendor Chorus Web site at www.southernsplendorchorus.org.
