“It is my honor to swear in four Athens City Councilmen on the eve of this most historic election,” said Limestone County Probate Judge Mike Davis Monday night as he prepared to read the oath of office at the city’s organizational meeting.
Davis swore in Councilwoman Mignon Bowers, Councilwoman Dr. Milly Caudle, Councilman Harold Wales and Councilman Ronnie Marks, as well as Mayor Dan Williams. Councilman Jimmy Gill was sworn in by Municipal Judge Don Mansell, at Gill’s request.
Before the proceedings the Athens High School JROTC Color Guard presented the colors and the mayor led the pledge of allegiance. The Rev. Jana Anderson of First Presbyterian Church offered the invocation.
Bowers is returning to city government after retiring as Athens City clerk more than five years ago. Four years ago she waged an unsuccessful challenge for mayor against Williams.
“It feels great to be back,” said Bowers. “I’m really excited and ready to go back to work. I’m very proud of this community and honored to serve as a City Council member.”
