Law enforcement officials in Alabama and Tennessee are still looking for a man who robbed CB&S in Ardmore, Tenn., which is just across the Alabama state line on 26314 Main St. The search was called off late Friday night but is expected to continue today.

The suspect is described as a black male standing around 5-feet, nine-inches tall, wearing a black jacket, dark pants, Ray-Ban sunglasses and a Miller beer hat.

An older, white Oldsmobile with a red top is believed to be involved in the robbery but witnesses say they saw the suspect running from the bank, said Sergeant Tracy Luna of the Ardmore Police Department, which is leading the investigation.

“The man handed the teller a typed note to let her know she was being robbed and the

note was long and she wasn’t paying a lot of attention,” said Luna. “It started out ‘Hi ma’am I hope you’re having a nice day.’ When she got to the part about you’re being robbed he laid a handgun on the counter so she could see it. And she started getting out the money.”

Luna said there were five or fewer people in the bank at the time of the robbery, which took a little over a minute and netted the suspect about $3,500.

“While we are still looking for the car, witnesses say the suspect crossed over into Alabama when he was running and we have concentrated our search on Jones Ave., Stateline Road and Alabama 53 back toward the interstate,” said Luna.

“We’ve received assistance from Giles County Sheriff’s Department, Limestone County Sheriff’s Department, which also put their helicopter in the air, and dogs were brought up from Capshaw (Limestone Correctional Facility),” he said.

Students at Ardmore High School and Cedar Hill Elementary School were confined to the school after authorities alerted them to the robbery. Two Limestone County schools were locked down Friday afternoon after the robbery but received the all clear about 3 p.m., said Limestone County Assistant Superintendent Mike Owens.
