Eight-year Ardmore, Tenn., board of aldermen member Tim McConnell has been elected mayor.

McConnell said he took 208 votes to opponent Garon Hargrove’s 149. McConnell will be sworn in to replace Mayor Bobby Hasting at the Jan. 14, 2010, meeting.

“I see some things I’d like to do to improve Ardmore,” said McConnell, an employee of Ardmore Telephone Co.

McConnell said he would like to see a change in awarding bids.

“The way it is now, we have to bid something if it’s over $4,000, but I’d like to drop that limit,” he said. “I think it should be from $1,000 to $2,000.”

McConnell said he would also like to attract jobs to the town that straddles the Alabama-Tennessee state line.

“Clayton Mobile Homes closed up this year and there were 100 or more jobs lost,” he said.

Two incumbent alderpersons, Janice Reece and Lorene Schrimsher, lost their seats on the board in the election. Coming on to the board of aldermen will be Wayne Harvell, Gary Graviet and Ken Crowson.
